Week 1 - Introduction to Class and to Computers
Homework for Thurs: Read Chapter 1
Week 2 - E-mail and Windows 98
Tuesday - in class exercises/ homework: (e-mail both to cprucher@smtp.rmcil.edu from your RMC e-mail account).
E-mail me your name, phone number and RMC e-mail address. I will e-mail you back, so you must check it before next class.
Create a file using WordPad. Use Save As to name it with your last name. Write me a memo stating one goal you have for this class and one goal you have for within the next five years. (This is the same as Workbook Exercise - Windows B2 - 3) Send the file to me as an e-mail attachment.

Artistic Ability / Skills Review
Create a simple image using Paint (Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint). Save it in a folder named CIS100 on your floppy disk. Select and copy the picture (Edit > Select All and then Edit > Copy)
Create a new file in WordPad. (Start > Programs > Accessories > WordPad). Paste the image into your file (Edit > Paste). Then write a few sentances about your artistic abilities. Save the file into your CIS100 folder.
Use Disk Copy to make a backup disk. (My Computer or Windows Explorer - Select the A: drive and choose File > Copy Disk).
To turn in your project, make a folder with your last name on it and copy your two files onto the instructor's computer.
Read Chapter 4 for tuesday.
Week 3
Tuesday - in class exercises / homework:
In Class Group Presentation of question #2, Chap 4, Computer Concepts (p 198)
Computer Concepts CD-ROM Lab - Directories, Folders, and Files.
Read and answer all questions in the lab. Print out and turn in. Use your course number for section ID (cis100ae for 8:00 class, cis100ab for 2:00 class)
Chapter Questions - Chapter 4, Computer Concepts, Study Tips (p. 198) Answer #1, 3, 7, 8. Turn in at beginning of class Thursday.
Thursday - in class exercises / homework:
Read Chapter 8 for Tuesday.
Chapter Questions - choose 10 terms from those listed on page 378 and define them, using your own words. Turn in at the beginning of class on Tuesday.
Week 4
Tuesday - in class exercise / homework:
Web assignment
Use Internet Explorer to go to Public Domain Images (www.PDImages.com/web6.html-ssi)
Choose an image and copy it (right click > copy)
You may not be able to copy the image in Netscape Navigator, but you can save the image, open it in Paint and then copy it.
Open a new WordPad file (Start > Programs > Accessories > WordPad) and paste your image into the new file.
In Explorer, copy the URL of the page with the image you copied, and then paste it into the WordPad file.
Save the file onto a disk.
Send me e-mail (cprucher@smtp.rmcil.edu) with that file as an attachment.
Thursday - in class exercise (due beginning of class Tues)

Use Excite and Yahoo to search for the same topic and answer questions about it.
Week 5
Tuesday - Midterm test (study guides available thurs of week 4)
Thursday - Advanced Windows (monitor display, system tools) and Intro to Word 2000
Exercises (due beginning of class Tues)
Letter using Word 2000
Read the workbook section Word A. Write me a letter based on the letter on Word A-9. Use your own words, tell me if you think the class is too fast or too slow and address it to me; Ms. Claire Prucher, 401 S. State St, Chicago IL 60605. Save it to your disk and turn in the print out.
Concepts Review - answer the questions on Word A-18 & 19. They can be typed or handwritten.
Week 6
Tuesday - Word 2000 - Formatting
Assignments (due beginning of class on Thurs)
Personal Portrait Write your personal portrait according to the handout. Use your own words, but the formatting must look exactly like the assignment.
To copy the assignment, right click over the personal portrait link and choose save link as.
Read Workbook - Word 2000 section C (formatting).
Thursday - Word 2000 - Editing and Page Setup
Workbook Examples - Word 2000, Section B
WD-B-1.doc WD-B-2.doc To copy the files onto your disk, right click over the link and choose save link as or save target as.
Assignment (due beginning of class on Tues.)
Alter WD-B-1.doc according to the workbook, word 2000, section B. Save and turn in print out (morning class only).
Skills Review - Word B-21. Alter WD-B-2.doc according to the directions. Refer to section B with any questions. Every step is covered in the workbook. (both classes)
Week 7
Tuesday - Intro to Excel, spreadsheets, functions and formatting
Assignments (due beginning of class thurs)
Use Excel to create a weekly schedule of your activities. Experiment with formatting the text and the cells. Turn in print out.
Afternoon class only - Skills Review - Excel C-19, question #1 only.
Read MS Office 2000 Workbook - Excel sections B and C (you do not have to do the activities, just read the explanations)
Thursday - Excel charts
Assignments (print outs due beginning of class tues)
Skills Review, Excel D-20, questions 1 -3 only.
Make a pie chart that looks like the one shown in your workbook, Excel D-24, but use your own data and file.
Thursday - Intro to Powerpoint
Assignments (due by Tuesday, beginning of class)
Powerpoint presentation using AutoContent Wizard
Follow steps in PowerPoint Unit A
Turn in printout in handout format, with 4 slides per page.
Powerpoint presentation using a Design Template
Follow steps in PowerPoint Unit B
You can use your own information and choose any template
Turn in print out (notes pages - morning class, handouts and outline - afternoon class)
