Stress: How to fight it while you’re in school

Victor Marrufo uses a planner to avoid getting stressed out.
Students often complain about how much work they have in school, and how much time they don’t have for themselves. One of the main reasons is because they work and attend college at the same time. It’s difficult to incorporate both and have some free time. Stress is difficult to deal with. Students become nervous and worry about their personal problems.
“I become very stressful sometimes. One of the reasons is because I have to work and go to school. Sometimes I don’t have time to study nor to do my homework,” said student Andrea Hodzic. “I begin to worry about my grades and other things, which cause me to be stressed.”
It’s difficult to find a solution to fight stress. The important thing is to make sure that students stay organized. Students should keep a planner or a calendar in order to remind them to plan for upcoming events and tasks, and it reminds individuals of important deadlines such as when an essay is due or a test date.
“I need to have a planner. I forget things easily, and if I don’t write it down I won’t do it. My planner helps me stay organized and it keeps me [on track]” said student Mike Zieman.
Students become stressed because they forget things, they don’t do something on time, or they simply put a task off until the last minute. This is the definition of being disorganized, and if students don’t try to improve organizational skills, it won’t benefit them. Students need to realize that college is a major responsibility in their lives, and dealing with stress is a part of attending school. If students don’t know how to deal with it while they are in school, they will struggle handling stress later on in life as well.
“Everyone gets stressed, and we try to deal with it on a daily basis. I know I get stressed many times when I don’t do something right or if I forget urgent things,” said student Adrian Munoz. “I try to stay calm and write things down to make sure I stay on top of my things.”
Staying on top of school work can greatly reduce stress and make time spent in school more pleasant.
