RMC Culinary students explore “Going Green”

On Jan. 28, Chef John Hudoc took his Culinary 130 class on a field trip to the Wheaton Whole Foods Market. As Chef Hudoc is an avid organic grocery store shopper, he brought his students in for a tour to teach them about the organic food movement and to support the Cultural Connections mission of focusing on green themes.

Frito-Lay professional speaks at Career Services event

During the month of February, the Career Services Department at Robert Morris College hosted a weekly series titled “Minority Professionals.” Every Wednesday a successful minority professional spoke to students and faculty about the corporate world and what it takes to be successful. The series gives students the opportunity to ask questions and gain more knowledge about some of America’s most successful organizations.

Tropical paradise creates heat for students

Imagine being stressed. What are the main factors that cause stress? Is there one way to manage time? Monique Jones, director of student affairs/special programs, has been planning workshops that make life easier for students at Robert Morris College.

The most recent workshop in the series focused on time management and took place in room 819 of the Chicago campus on Feb. 26. The speaker for the workshop was Christina Samycia, PsyD, who works for the Center for Personal Development. She helped students figure out what type of learners they were by breaking them down into four categories: visual, auditory, reading, and kinesthetic learners.

RMC SIFE will showcase progress at regional competition

On Tuesday, March 25, Robert Morris College’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will attend SIFE’s annual regional competition in Chicago, IL at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. SIFE regional competitions are a chance for local SIFE teams to compete and to showcase the hard work they have accomplished throughout the year.

RMC celebrates Black History Month

In the city of Chicago there is plenty of culture to enrich students. There is the Cultural Center, the Art Institute, and much, much more. The city itself is a cultural melting pot; walking anywhere downtown, one will realize that Chicago is a diverse city. On Feb. 27, at the Robert Morris College Chicago campus, the office of Student Affairs ran the “Celebrating Black History” event. By doing so, they wanted to bring black culture to the 7th floor student center. The event was packed, every seat was taken and the line for food was packed with anticipating students and faculty.

RMC Honors Club travels to conference

The Honors Club started this past December at the Robert Morris College Chicago Campus. Its officers, advisor Catherine Stark, and English instructor Jane Ungari took a trip to Moline, Il. for the annual Honors Council of the Illinois Region (HCIR) Conference on March 1.

Lake County Computer Studies students go to Cisco

On Jan. 28, students from the Computer Studies department at the Robert Morris College Lake County campus took a field trip to the Cisco Chicago customer briefing center near O’Hare Airport. The field trip, organized by instructor Mohammed Salam, was planned to coincide with students’ knowledge and experience with networking equipment. “I wanted my students to have the opportunity to see what’s out there and [to see] what’s new with Cisco,” said Salam.

Virginia Tech shooting survivor discusses NIU tragedy

Last month, the tragic shooting rampage at Northern Illinois University gained national attention, and it has impressed the issue of campus security on the minds of students everywhere, including Robert Morris College. “It [campus security] does concern me because people are allowed to walk through the building and security allows it,” said RMC Architectural Technology student Kim Jones.

The design world brought to RMC

In 1975, an organization was formed to bring interior designers together for networking purposes and to improve the profession. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the oldest, largest, and leading organization for interior design professionals. With more than 40,000 members, 48 chapters in the United States and Canada, and more than 12,000 students, this is where Robert Morris College comes into play.
