During the Summer I quarter, Bensenville students Melissa Cantu, Andrea Hodzic and Bensenville Director of Education, Diane Allen, delivered a scholarly presentation at the Bensenville Campus to Robert Morris College faculty, staff and students. The presentation focused on their success representing the RMC Bensenville Chapter of the Business Professionals of America in an intense business- presentation competition at the National Leadership Conference held.

At the presentation to the RMC community, Cantu and Hodzic, Vice President and Secretary, respectively, of the Bensenville BPA Chapter, described the competition at the National Leadership Conference as intense. 700 college students nationwide were competing for top spots as presenters in multiple categories. Cantu and Hodzic spoke to the RMC audience about their work on a Small Business Management Team Project, Individual Business Management Project and Individual Interview Skills Project.

Their dedication and hard work paid off. In the Individual Business Management Project, Cantu and Hodzic progressed to the finals and, out of 21 competitors, Hodzic placed seventh and Cantu placed tenth.

“I was glad that we made it in the top ten. I was really nervous before the competition, but it all went well,” said Hodzic.

“Both of us worked hard on these presentations, and we couldn’t wait to see how it would all turn out. I have really enjoyed the time spent in New York. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m glad that we made it that far,” said Cantu.

Allen was integral in helping the finalists get as far as they did in the competition. She coached, mentored, and supported them through the entire process. Her dedication was vital to helping the students succeed.

“All in all, the trip to NYC was invaluable for many reasons. It taught the students to be vigilant in a time of stress, to understand through experience how they will need to conduct themselves in their future endeavors, and gave them a chance to explore the wondrous city of New York. We thank Robert Morris College for this opportunity and believe we represented the College and the State of Illinois with dignity and pride. We will remember this experience with joy and satisfaction forever,” said Allen.
