Libby Julia, the Director of
Student Life/Housing, has just
announced the Resident Advisor
team for the 2008-2009 academic
year. As the demand for student
housing has continued to grow, so
has the demand for individuals
that possess the talent to hold a
leadership role while remaining
in good academic standing.
“An RA is a student of many
talents. A party planner, role
model, a mediator, a friend and
the voice of reason at 3:00 in the
morning,” said Julia.
Housing is half of the college
experience.
“I think in a school setting it is
important to have RA’s. They
make sure that things are done by
policy, which in turn helps with
the safety of the students,” said
Miranda Russell, RMC business
student residing in student housing.
Resident Advisors are responsible
for enforcing housing policy,
and more importantly, organizing
and planning activities
involving student life. This task is
a difficult one, as there are a vast
amount of things to do when living
in the city of Chicago.
As Libby reminded her new
team of RA’s, it is important for a
Resident Advisor to possess the
balance of the leader and friend to
all of the housing students.
“I think that the largest challenge
in being a Resident Advisor
is finding the balance between
doing good things for others and
doing good things for yourself,”
said Cristian Bitter, new RMC
resident advisor.
