Get the most out of The Robert Morris University Teaching Institute

Consulting Services

Senior Teaching Fellows are available to discuss a variety of teaching and learning topics, such as, maintaining an inclusive classroom, facilitating discussions, active learning in large and small classrooms, using the internet for instructional purposes, using humor in the classroom, grading writing assignments, designing effective writing assignments, instructing students about plagiarism, developing effective tests, giving and getting feedback, classroom methods, writing across the curriculum, planning for a new course, assessment, testing online,  and grading group work. This is a voluntary consultation that is initiated by faculty and is confidential. Fellows are willing to talk with individuals, groups, departments, or at the School/Institute level.

Classroom Observation

Classroom observation is available to instructors looking for objective feedback on their teaching.  Maybe you are looking for new ways to deliver your course materials or how to engage students in a large lecture format.  Prior to the observation you will discuss your objectives.  This can be done via email, phone, or face to face.  After you agree to the objectives of the observation, the Senior Fellow will schedule a date and time.   Once the observation is completed the instructor will meet with the observer and discuss in confidence what was observed and any implications for teaching.

Faculty Evaluation

Need help interpreting and using your student evaluations to inform your teaching practice? Contact the Teaching Institute.

Teaching Portfolios

Teaching portfolios are a great way to document your teaching.  In addition, a portfolio provides an opportunity to examine your practice and be more reflective.   A good teaching portfolio documents the scope and quality of your teaching.   Contact The Teaching Institute to get started.  Workshops are offered during the academic year.
